Barak Kalir is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam and the director of the research group Moving Matters: People, Goods, Power and Ideas. He is also acting as the co-director of the Institute for Ethnic and Migration Studies (IMES). He published widely on undocumented migration, cross border mobility and permissive polities. He is currently leading the ERC-funded project “The Social Life of State Deportation Regimes” that seeks to compare the implementation process of deportation regimes in 6 different countries around the world.
