For many lefty activists in Germany, expressing criticism towards Israel is a dilemma: on the one hand, it is hard to stay quiet in face of the oppression and discrimination Palestinians suffer. On the other, if you speak up, you may be branded antisemitic.
To disentangle the mess, one first has to understand what’s the difference between Judaism and Zionism, and between antisemitism and anti-Zionism. Together, we shall explore these terms and try to figure out how to criticize Israel without coming across as antisemitic, and how to tell the difference between legitimate criticism and antisemitic hate speech.
On 24 January, we’ll be talking to GAL SCHKOLNIK, a long-standing activist from Tel Aviv. We will attempt to learn how to build antisemitism-free pro-Palestinian discourse and how to reply to unjust accusations of antisemitism.
